Floods

Flooding can be caused by any number of events, but most commonly it is caused by due storms and melting ice or snow. Some of the startling facts associated with flooding:
•It only takes 6 inches of swiftly moving water to knock a person off their feet – Do not walk through flowing water
•Cars can be swept away in just 2 feet of moving water – Do not drive through flooded areas
•Drowning is the number one cause of death during flooding -Heed evacuation requests and following instructions provided by Emergency Responders
•Electrocution a major concern during floods as currents from down power lines travel through water – Report down power lines to you local utility company
•Gas leaks are a common occurrence during flooding – Do not smoke, use candles, lanterns or open flames
•Gas powered machines produce carbon monoxide exhaust which is odorless and kills – Use all gas powered machinery, including generators and stoves, outside
•Wash EVERYTHING that gets wet – Floodwaters pick up sewage and chemicals from roads, farms and factories
•Medications, food and cosmetics which come in contact with floodwater are health hazards – Throw them away
